About Us
Who We Are
Kingkovsky (Pty) Ltd trading as Reunion Trading (hereafter referred to as Reunion Trading or the company or the business) is a grocery wholesaler that was established in a basement over 50 years ago by Mr. Ebrahim Cassim in Durban. Reunion Trading adopted an organic growth business model, having started as a micro grocery wholesaler which has evolved into a mega-grocery wholesaler servicing large supermarkets and around Umlazi in Durban.
Our Business Model
Reunion Trading acts as a value-adding intermediary between geographically dispersed supplier companies and the scattered retailers who move the product to the end users. In carrying out its function, Reunion Trading acquires a wide assortment of goods in bulk from individual manufacturers, then organizes and distributes them as needed by retail and wholesale customers. To maximize the number of shoppers that procure from the store, the company intends to also offer home deliveries and in-store pickup options and establish some remote collection points.
Our Goal
The business’s goal is to reach more retailers and especially households as it shifts its focus to retail services in addition to the current wholesale activities. Currently, Reunion Trading is operating from a 6000m2 property situated at 39 Rana Road Isipingo Rail in Isipingo adjacent to its current premises. However, catering to retail customers requires the company to provide ample parking, wider aisle space, and a more aesthetic shopping environment. Hence the company has purchased the 10,000-square-meter property adjacent to the store.
African Investment
South African retailers have largely retained their presence in Southern Africa while withdrawing from some West and East African markets. Retailers continue to experience risks including currency devaluations and high inflation. Many consumers in African countries with strong informal channels have resisted migrating to supermarkets, limiting their visits to occasional bulk-buying while continuing to rely on informal traders for their daily purchases.
Poverty Alleviation
Poverty alleviation is attained by providing salaries and wages to the employed staff of the business. The operations of the business also open new opportunities in various complementing economic areas in the community that Reunion Trading services. Henceforth, a negative impact on poverty is anticipated. Also, purchasing fresh produce from local farmers will increase economic activity and job creation thus reducing poverty.
